Land Donation

A land donation provides a proud legacy of commitment to future generations, as well as a benefit to yourself and your community, today.

The Coeur d’Alene Parks Foundation can assist you.  The Coeur d’Alene Parks Foundation is a nonprofit corporation that works with landowners interested in protecting open space and expanding parks in North Idaho.  Many conservation methods are available for private landowners to use conserved land for its natural, recreational, scenic, historical, and productive value.

Depending on your needs and wishes, and the property’s unique attributes, there are a variety of conservation options available. One option is to establish a “conservation easement” which is a legal agreement between a landowner and a land trust or government agency that permanently limits uses of the land in order to protect its conservation values. It allows landowner to continue to own and use the land, and the land can be sold or passed to heirs.  Some landowners desire to donate all interest in a piece of land for park or recreation use, while others protect the land through a donation in which the donating landowner receives lifetime income.  Another option is to sell land to an entity that will preserve and protect the property for future generation uses.  In some circumstances it is desirable to donate land to be sold with the proceeds to be used to assist in the protection and development of other land for parks and conservation.

Conservation easements, charitable gifts, annuities and other land donation techniques of appreciated land can have very favorable tax advantages.  If you are interested in permanently and positively affecting your community, call your financial advisor, or lawyer, or call the Coeur d’Alene Parks Foundation to help you determine your best conservation options.
